Top Gear USA runs with the bulls - Click above to see the video after the jump
While everyone and their mother seems to have made Top Gear USA bashing the new national pastime, you might want to take a look at the newest video tease it's just released. While the appeal of the BBC show undoubtedly revolves around the chemistry between its three mismatched hosts, at its core, it's a show about cars. So even if we're not certain the three American hosts can live up to the legacy established by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, perhaps they really don't need to.
Top Gear USA isn't a replacement for the BBC show after all - it's more of a spin-off. And as long as the production values stay high - and from the looks of it, they have - it's just more car pr0n for all of us. Case in point: the video you'll see after the jump. The storyline is fairly straightforward: Round up the baddest Lamborghinis from the corral - Superleggera, Balboni and SuperVeloce - and open them up so we can see what they'll do. Can there possibly be a loser? Maybe the matador. Follow the jump to see the Top Gear USA guys on their run with the bulls. Thanks to everyone for the tips!

Lamborghini Reventón R/C Car - Click above for image gallery
Like the vast majority of humanity, we were never able to lay our hands on one of the 20 Lamborghini Reventón models the company built for the fabulously wealthy. We had neither the $1.27 million it took to call the car your very own nor the connections to be one of the few to even have the chance to purchase said Raging Bull. That's just fine, though, because Lamborghini has partnered up with De Agostini to build a 1:10 scale R/C replica of the car for the masses. Well, maybe not the masses per-se - the company is only building 65 examples, so this ain't your garden-variety Nikko or Tamiya.
Each one of the cars is crafted with impressive detail and features a 3cc gasoline engine mated to a two-speed transmission, a fully-independent suspension with hydraulic shocks and four-wheel disc brakes - all on an R/C car. Insane? Sure, but it's our kind of crazy. Unfortunately, with so few of the cars being produced, we're guessing they won't be cheap enough for anyone we know to afford. History repeats itself. You can head over to the R/C car's site for a closer look.

Lamborghini Estoque - Click above for high-res image gallery
Hold on to your lugnuts, kids, because here's a rumor that's so far out it practically qualifies as science fiction. Taken straight from Gasgoo.com, which has provided plenty of worthy news in the past, is this nugget: Lamborghini "will import its super luxury four-door sedan, Lamborghini Estoque to China for local production in 2012 with a price tag of around 4 million yuan ($589,000)."
To be fair, it appears as though Gasgoo is just reporting on what's being reported in other Chinese media. However, in case you haven't been keeping up with the Estoque's flirtations with production reality, first Lamborghini planned to make it after it was introduced two years ago, then the economic implosion supposedly killed it in early 2009, but Lamborghini quickly said that wasn't true, then this month company CEO Stephan Winkelmann hinted about how a third model would help the brand.
To us, none of that means the 2008 Paris Motor Show traffic-stopper is going to be built at all. Somehow, though, the Chinese media have heard that not only is it going to be built, but it will be built in China as soon as 2012. On top of that, even though it hasn't been developed, it's already been priced, and at that price you could buy almost three Aston Martin Rapide sedans. Or, more accurately, three Rapides and an infinite number of leprechauns, gorgons, drop bears and the latest creature of fable, a Chinese-built Estoque.

2010 Concorso Italiano - Click above for high-res image gallery
Monterey coverage continues with one of Friday's staples. Concorso Italiano has been one of Monterey's largest gatherings of primarily Italian vehicles for years. Laguna Seca Golf Ranch played the hospitable host, giving throngs of Italian-car lovers the opportunity to get up close and personal with hundreds of le belle macchine.
Lamborghini, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia, DeTomaso and Ferrari, were well represented - long lines of each marque appearing almost mirage-like down the fairways of Laguna. You know those shots you've seen of exotic cars lined up outside the factory? Multiply those by ten. It is absolutely crazy. Special gatherings honored the Ferrari F40, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary of U.S. citizenship. The Italians were never really that great at dates, as the F40 was originally intended to be a 40th anniversary treat for Enzo himself to celebrate the company's 1947 birth. Unfortunately, it appeared around 1990 instead. Don't even get us started on the F50.
Concorso has hosted several smaller manufacturers over the years as well. Not just the oddball makes that few people have ever heard of, but also fledgling companies that have sometimes risen to prominence - or fallen infamously. This year, Superformance showed off the new Zagato-penned Perana Z-One. The European GT styling combined with Corvette power reminds us of the classic Italo-Amercan mashups from DeTomaso, Iso, Bizzarrini and the like. The Z-One is gorgeous, and we were blown away by its build quality. We're negotiating some seat time to give you the full rundown, but for now, check out the gallery and you'll see why Concorso Italiano has become one of the world's greatest events for lovers of Italian machinery.

United Nude Lo Res Project Lamborghini Countach - Click above for gallery
Whereas the videogame and CGI worlds are obsessed with ever higher polygon counts to help replicate the smoothness and texture of real life objects, a group of designers at United Nude (great name) has started a project by the name of Lo Res to explore design in the opposite direction. The group takes typical objects like a shoe, a chair, glasses or a Lamborghini Countach, scans them into a computer and then renders them with ever decreasing numbers of triangles.
The result is a kind of computer-aided abstract take on whatever object has struck their fancy. If the group likes the finished product well enough, they'll even go to the trouble of having the object built in true-to-life size like they did with the Lamborghini Countach. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like you can hop in the Lo Res Countach and go for a ride, but you could certainly hang it on your wall as a piece of fine art.

Lamborghini Estoque Concept - Click above for high-res image gallery
Just when you thought that hallowed Lamborghini was safe from the threat of a new mega saloon, news like this crops up. While speaking with interviewers, company CEO Stephan Winkelmann said that adding a third model to the Lamborghini lineup would be a good way to shore up diminished sales. The company hasn't quite been able to maintain its pre-recession numbers with sales down 18 percent compared to last year.
What exactly does Winkelmann have in mind? A four door designed to compete with the likes of the Aston Martin Rapide, Porsche Panamera and Maserati Quattroporte. If that means something along the lines of the mighty Estoque Concept, our hearts wouldn't exactly be broken, even if that means diluting the Lamborghini gene pool somewhat.
For now though, the new model is simply Winkelmann's best guess at how to get buyers back behind the wheel of a Raging Bull. Before the company goes dumping cash into development, it will need to see sales of both the Gallardo and Murcielago improve in a big way.

Anderson Germany Lamborghini LP550-2 Valentino Balboni - Click above for high-res image gallery
We have to wonder if we were given an expanse of resources and all the time in the world, if we could actually improve on the driving dynamics of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni. The car was tailored specifically to the tastes of a man who knows more than a little about what the perfect driving car should feel like, so it would seem somewhat arrogant to assume to be able to improve on the recipe. Fortunately, the aftermarket world packs the kind of confidence we can only feign, and Anderson Germany has taken up the challenge of making Balboni's ride even more lethal.
The company has added a few aesthetic additions to the car, including a set of hefty three-piece, 20-inch wheels and smoked tail lights. Meanwhile, Anderson Germany's wrenches have managed to bleed an extra 40 horsepower out of the car - bumping the final figure up to 590 ponies. Otherwise, the only changes are a few interior updates. We guess it's best not to mess with perfection. Hit the jump for the press release.

1996 Vector M12 - Click above for high-res image gallery
The definition of insanity is said to be doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Based on that description almost every person that has ever tried to start a new sports car company must be absolutely certifiable, Certainly, some of the people that dealt with Vector creator Gerald Wiegert over the years would probably apply that label. Over the span of 35 years, Wiegert never really gave up his dream of building an American supercar, but over that time period, fewer than three dozen Vectors are said to have been completed. With that sort of scarcity, It's not often that you'll find two of them in the same place, but a car dealer in Ohio currently has a pair of M12s for sale, including the very first "production" model.
In the mid-1990s Wiegert lost control of Vector to the same Indonesian company that bought Lamborghini from Chrysler and later sold it to Audi. During that overlap period, Megatech moved the company to the same Green Cove Springs, Florida industrial park that more recently was reputed to be a staging ground for the UN invasion of America. Megatech took the earlier WX-3 design and wrapped it around what was essentially a modified Lamborghini Diablo powertrain rather than the previous Chevrolet small-block V8 derivative. In other words, the stars-and-stripes patriotism of this particular M12's paint scheme is sadly a bit late for the all-American cheerleading, more ironic than appropriate.
Only 14 M12s were reported to be delivered to customers over a four-year period. After selling Lamborghini to the Germans, the final M12 was refitted with a small-block meant to be offered as the SRV8, but Vector Motors finally imploded before any were sold.

Lamborghini LM002 - Click above for high-res image gallery
Hold on to your butts, Lamborghini fans. Word from Car and Driver's German correspondent is that the bullish Italian automaker is strongly considering re-entering the hardcore SUV segment. Considering that the brand's last effort into such uncharted territory brought us the Hummer-esque LM002, you can officially color us intrigued.
If the machine does make it past the planning stages, it will reportedly be based on the platform shared by the Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne, but we imagine it would get a powertrain more suitable for Lamborghini use - we can only hope that means a V12, as was the case with the LM002.
Another market Lamborghini is said to be considering is the entry-level V8 supercar segment. If a production model does indeed come about, it would slot below the V10-powered Gallardo. As with the aforementioned SUV, this would not be the first time Lambo has dipped a toe in these waters, as its Urraco, Silhouette and Jalpa played in the exact same market in the 1970s and 1980s before the Italian manufacturer pulled out in favor of traditional range-topping supercars like the Diablo and Murcielago.
Sadly, rumor has it that Lamborghini will not pursue the Estoque concept, leaving the Maserati Quattroporte as the only Italian to do battle with the likes of the Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide. Still, the company must at least be considering the Estoque since it went ahead and produced a concept to gauge reaction. So, which of these new Lamborghini rumors would you most like to see fulfilled? Take part in our totally unscientific poll after the break.

2010 Le Mans Classic - Click above for high-res image gallery, and help us caption some of the cars!
Every two years in July, hundreds of vintage race cars gather at the famed Le Mans race circuit in France to fire up their engines and relive the glory days in the historic corners and long straights of the nearly 8.5-mile Circuit de la Sarthe. But that's just part of it. In addition to the priceless machinery racing on the track, thousands of other classic cars trek to the grounds to fill nearly every open spot at the huge venue. Autoblog was invited by Porsche France to enjoy the 2010 Le Mans Classic in person, and needless to say, it was absolutely spectacular.
According to the organizers, this year's show welcomed 100,000 spectators, 8,000 display cars, 460 racing cars and 1,000 drivers. With sunny 95-degree temperatures over both days, the weather was unusually hot and the grounds chokingly dusty, but it didn't seem to keep anyone - or anything - from the event.
When not enjoying the racing, we strolled the show and stumbled over well-preserved classics from Jaguar, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Renault, Lamborghini, Audi, BMW and more. Porsche models were everywhere as the various European Porsche Car Clubs stormed the venue with more than 800 cars. Where else can you physically brush elbows with a race-ready BMW M1, a brand-new 2011 Ferrari 599 GTO and ride in the back of a historic war-era Willys Jeep all within the same 60 seconds? Le Mans Classic, baby. And these weren't sterile, stuck-behind-the-ropes museum stock, either - everything was meant to be driven and enjoyed.
We've put together a massive gallery offering just a taste of the caliber of vehicles on display, running hot laps and racing last weekend. While we've attempted to caption many of these, some still have us stumped. If you can identify a few of the nameless, give us a shout in the comments (with the photo number as seen in the URL) and we'll update the captions as quickly as our server's cache will let us.

Lamborghini's Advanced Composite Research Center - Click above for high-res image gallery
Lamborghini has announced its intentions to build lighter cars, and that means more carbon fiber and carbon composites. The stampeding bull is already deep into the stuff, with the Murcielago replacement (rumored to carry the Jota name) swapping out the Murci's steel frame for one of carbon fiber, and the Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera winning The Biggest Loser due to its CF parts.
Getting ready for the long term and knowing it will need to do more than merely hang carbon parts on its wares, Lamborghini has opened an Advanced Composites Research Center in Sant' Agata Bolognese. The 30-strong workforce will develop new processes for designing, shaping and producing parts for the "extremely complex carbon-fiber structures" we hope to see on Lamborghinis of the future. Follow the jump for the full press release on the center.

Radoslav Kalla's winning Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder - Click above for high-res image gallery
If you've got your ear to the ground, you've probably heard a thing or two about the Targa Trophy. Think of it as a more responsible, but no less entertaining version of the Gumball. Instead of encouraging drivers to be the first across the line, the Targa trophy works just like any other TSD (time, speed, distance) road rally: teams are given the location of a checkpoint and are expected to navigate there within a predetermined amount of time. Those closest to the time without being over (or under) are awarded the most points.
This year's running of the SoCal event has wrapped up with 73 drivers tackling a varied course that wound through the Californian countryside. Radoslav Kalla and his Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder took the overall win with 1,048 points. His closest competitor, Thomas Dillman, piloted an Audi S4 to finish with 966 points.
The Targa Trophy will now head to San Francisco. The green flag drops on August 27, and the checkers will fall the following day in Silicon Valley. For now though, you can enjoy a few shots of the participating metal on hand for the SoCal Targa Trophy, or reminisce about last year's event by reading our own Jonny Lieberman's account of his drive in a Hyundai Genesis in the 2009 event.

Tonino Lamborghini CULV laptop - Click above for image gallery
Take a particular slant on supercar history and you'd be forgiven for categorizing Lamborghini as another pretender to Ferrari's throne. Enzo was, after all, the spiteful impetus for Ferruccio's branching out from tractors to sportscars, and some might say has been playing catch-up ever since. Whatever way you look at it, that's certainly the case when it comes to merchandising, an area which - for better or worse - Ferrari's long been the leader.
As Ferrari has its line of Acer computers, so has Lamborghini teamed up with Asus for a range of laptops. But this is something altogether different. Tonino Lamborghini - Ferruccio's son with his own line of merchandise - has granted his name and variation on the raging bull badge to be used on this seemingly pedestrian laptop. The specs are rather run-of-the-mill and the design is rather uninspired, as you'll find in the gallery below and the source links. But at 649 euros, it's a fair bit cheaper than the four-figure tags on either its namesake's or its rival's more upscale offerings.

Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera Spyder spy shots - Click above for high-res image gallery
Obvious lengthy name jokes aside, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera is one heck of a performance machine. It's all about saving weight when it comes to this car ("Superleggera," after all, means "super light"), so it strikes us as something of a surprise to see this prototype of a Spyder version out testing on the Nürburgring.
Most noticeably, the hardtop Superleggera's rear wing is gone, but the large front spoiler and rear diffuser make it clear that this Gallardo means business. Besides, Lamborghini has been known to keep weight under control with its Erector Set roof assemblies, so we'd expect the Superleggera Spyder to generate the same sort of super lightweight thrills with a whole lot more wind in your hair.
Expect to see the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera Spyder (now that's a mouthful) at the Paris Motor Show later this year. For now, click through our gallery below for the full raft of high-res spy shots.

Concept Cars, Supercars, Lamborghini

Anything you can do, I can do better. That's pretty much been Lamborghini's attitude towards arch-rival Ferrari since Ferrucio Lamborghini starting building sportscars to spite Enzo Ferrari. Fast forward 45 years and with both men gone, the idea remains the same: if Ferrari could create an exotic supercar and name it after its founder, so can Lamborghini. Only in this case, the heritage is carried on by independent designer Pule Magau of carrozzeria Magvisio.
What you see before you is the Lamborghini Ferruccio. Like the Reventon, the Ferruccio was conceived as an ultra-exclusive uber-exotic based on the Murcielago LP640. But while the Reventon had its production run upped to 100, the Ferruccio was planned for only 10 road-going examples: five coupes and five roadsters. Also like the Reventon, the Ferruccio was supposed to sell for Є1 million ($1.5 million), but it very well might have been the manifestation of the Reventon that stopped the Ferruccio project in its tracks, siphoning off potential customers to the factory's own show-stopper.
The use of carbon fiber inside and out on the Ferruccio promised to undercut the Murcielago's 0-60 time to three seconds flat en route to a claimed top speed of 230 mph, with 330mm ceramic discs and six-pot calipers to keep the speed in check. Couple that with razor-sharp styling to rival the Reventon, and you've got an interesting package, if only it didn't cost so much. Magau, however, is reportedly working to reduce the costs. If those goals can be met and the deposits roll in, the Ferruccio project could turn from wet dream to startling reality. Thanks for the tip, Mike!
NOTE: Autoblog team is split 50/50 on whether this is actual news or a bit of chain yanking from the Brits. Nunez wants it categorically stated on record that he is 100% convinced this is an "elaborate BS festival", noting that CAR's link to Magvisio's website is bogus. Noah, meanwhile, points out that there's even a video rendering of the Ferruccio, which means it would be one very elaborate hoax if it weren't the real deal. Lamborghini Reventón
It's fast, it's rare, and it costs one million euros to own. The Reventón may well be the Lamborghini to end all Lamborghini's, but with only 20 copies ever scheduled to see their way through the assembly process, it may be too exclusive for its own good. Either way, 650 HP and 0-60 in 3.4, and slap you in the face styling are enough to keep enthusiasts of all ages up at night. The Reventón may be 20 copies exclusive, and none of us may ever see one on public roads, but that doesn't mean it isn't all over YouTube. With the Gallardo Superleggera, to be launched at the 2007 Geneva motor show, Automobili Lamborghini presents an uncompromisingly high-performance sports car. Thanks to increased power (an additional 10 hp) and a 100 kg reduction in weight, the new range-leading Gallardo Superleggera is even more dynamic than the already very sporty Gallardo. The weight/power ratio of the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera is only 2.5 kg/hp, putting it in the top lightweights of its class.

The Superleggera also has the fastest acceleration in its class. It needs only 3.8 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph); 0.2 seconds less than the basic model, and boasting speed and grit under various driving conditions.

The Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera is an extremely high-performance car: it includes a standard robotized mechanical e-gear gearbox that guarantees shifting without removing hands from the steering wheel. The new Gallardo Superleggera can be ordered through the dealer network starting March 2007: production volumes will be restricted to lower numbers than the standard Gallardo.

More power thanks to technological developments
The Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera’s engine is the latest version of Lamborghini’s well-known 4,961 cm3 V10. Now 530 hp is reached in 8,000 min-1. The increase in power was made possible by the engine’s improved volumetric efficiency through reduced intake load losses and by exhaust backpressures, together with optimized electronic control. Naturally, emission levels observe the strict EURO 4 and LEV II standards.

Higher power thanks to lighter construction
Lamborghini engineers decreased the Lamborghini Gallardo’s already low weight when empty (1,430 kg) by another 100 kg (70kg in the USA) using advanced materials and technologies. The engine hood is made of visible carbon fibre and transparent polycarbonate, a type of material that guarantees lightness and also shows off the magnificent V10. The rear diffuser and underbody covering, the rearview mirrors, door panels and the central tunnel’s covering are also made of carbon fibre. Further reductions in weight were achieved by replacing certain glass surfaces with transparent polycarbonate. For the interior, monocoque carbon fibre sports seats covered in Alcantara® were chosen to ensure restraint of the driver and passenger during the intense lateral accelerations that the Gallardo Superleggera is capable of achieving around curves.

Exclusive specification and options range
A comprehensive specification and extensive range of options will be available, with some exclusive to the Superleggera. The Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera comes with robotized mechanical e-gear as standard; a sports package including shock absorbers; and special suede-covered steering wheel. The car is available in four colors: Midas Yellow, Borealis Orange, Telesto Gray and Noctis Black. Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires (standard) on new Scorpius forged rims accentuate the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera. A few of the options that can be requested include the multimedia system with navigator and CD-changer; a rear video camera to make parking easier (with optional rear wing only); a Carbon accessories kit for the interior; a fixed rear spoiler; a four-point seatbelt (not for USA); tubular rear frame or fitting points for later inclusion (not for USA, Japan or Middle East); and carbon-ceramic brakes.
