• Chevrolet Volt will not be eligible for HOV-lane access until mid-2012 -

Filed under: Hybrid, Sedan, Government/Legal, Hatchback, Chevrolet, Nissan, Electric

Prospective owners of the Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf shouldn't get too excited about driving in California carpool lanes as soon as they take delivery. Late Tuesday night California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed SB 535 into law, extending access to the high-occupancy-vehicle (HOV) lanes to certain very low and zero emissions vehicles. This new class of vehicles known as Enhanced Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicles (enh-ATPZEVs) and includes plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles like the Leaf and Toyota's Prius PHEV.

Unfortunately, there are some caveats. SB 535 doesn't take effect until January 1, 2012 and even then only 40,000 of the special stickers needed for HOV access will be made available. In order to qualify, the vehicle has to be rated as an enh-ATPZEV, which brings up the second problem for Volt drivers. A General Motors spokesperson confirmed that the 2011 and 2012 Volt will not be enh-ATPZEV certified. The requirements to earn the enh-ATPZEV label are significantly tougher than the standard ATPZEV. Given the escalated development of the Volt, GM didn't have enough time to calibrate and verify that the plug-in hybrid would meet the standard over a 10-year/150,000-mile period.

That's also why the Volt battery only has the eight-year/100,000-mile warranty required for the non-enhanced ATPZEV. GM spokesman Rob Peterson verified that the Volt will be updated to enh-ATPZEV in mid-2012 when the 2013 model is introduced. In the meantime, you'll just to make sure to bring a friend if you want to ride in the carpool lane.

UPDATE: We just got word from Nissan that the Leaf is eligible for the All Access stickers under a previous bill passed (AB 1500) earlier this year. That means if you take delivery of a Leaf today, you can be flying in the HOV lanes tomorrow.

Chris Paine filming Revenge of the Electric Car

Remember the documentary "Who killed the Electric Car?" Director Chris Paine created the film in 2005 and 2006 to bemoan the decision of some automakers to kill off their electric car programs. It's now five years later and Paine and company are back with a vengeance videotaping "Revenge of the Electric Car."

In the original film, General Motors was reviled for its decision to deep-six the innovative EV1 all-electric two-seat car. But thanks to the impending production of the Chevrolet Volt, GM is now considered one of the reasons that the EV is on the comeback trail. Paine and his crew were allowed access to The General's Detroit Hamtramck plant to witness - with cameras rolling - the assembly production of pre-production Volt number 100. And to think that five years ago Rick Wagner and his crew would have been more likely to lend a size 14 boot to Paine's rear end than allow him to film inside one of the company's most important plants. My how times have changed.

There is no solid timetable for the release of "Revenge of the Electric Car" right now, but the documentary will likely align very well with the release of the Volt and Nissan Leaf, which are followed by an electric Focus not long after.

  • Report: Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet (convertible) joining Ellure concept in LA -

Filed under: Concept Cars, LA Auto Show, Convertible, Crossover, Nissan

Yes, the Nissan Murano convertible is going to happen, and not only is it coming to the LA Auto Show, but now it has a name: The Murano CrossCabriolet.

Billed as the world's first four-seat, all-wheel drive convertible crossover, the chop-top CUV will only sport two doors and - contrary to the renderings floating around - it won't come with PT Cruiser-style roll hoop.

According to Inside Line, joining the CrossCabriolet at the So. Cal. show this November will be a new Nissan sedan concept that, is said to be "a new dimension to traditional sedan design - a dimension named innovation." Ridiculous hyperbole aside, the four-door concept has been dubbed Ellure, and hopefully the "new dimension" it creates will swallow the CrossCabriolet into oblivion.

  • Nissan, Hyundai reportedly duking it out for No. 2 Asian automaker in U.S. -

Nissan has long been the number three Asian automaker in the U.S., lagging behind both Honda and Toyota on the sales charts. But the Japanese automaker has been on a bit of a roll of late, with 10 straight months of sales gains and an aggressive product onslaught planned for the next 24 months. Nissan would love to unseat Honda to finally sneak up to the number two slot in the States, but a funny thing's happening: Hyundai is doing its best to push Nissan down to number four.

Nissan and Hyundai are currently in a dead heat in U.S. auto sales. Through July, Nissan has sold 522,669 cars and trucks, while Hyundai, when combined with Kia sales, has moved 515,316 vehicles. Hyundai has a treasure-trove of new product on dealer lots lead by the outstanding Sonata sedan. New products like the Kia Sportage and the Elantra are poised to battle hard for increased market share in their perspective segments. Nissan is countering with a new Juke in October, followed by the Leaf EV and the Quest minivan, and wrapping up with another six significantly upgraded vehicles by 2012.

So who do we think will win the battle for number two? Hyundai appears to have most of the momentum at the moment, but Nissan has a larger customer base - at the moment. In fact, we'd be surprised if either automaker surpasses Honda in the next couple years.

  • Nissan Xterra not long for this world? -

2010 Nissan Xterra on the trail

Nissan's Xterra, a throwback to when all SUVs were red in tooth and claw, may be swinging on the gallows sooner rather than later. According to Ward's Auto, the gloriously upright off-roader faces an uncertain future amidst slumping sales and ever-tightening federal fuel economy regulations.

    Ward's
data indicates that the Xterra has sold just 12,186 units through July, and even that modest figure is well ahead of last year's glacial pace brought about by the stagnant economy. By comparison, Nissan shipped 88,578 new Xterras off to owners in 2000.

The Xterra hasn't received more than modest changes since its redesign back in 2005, and although Nissan's vice president of advanced product and product planning and stategy, Larry Dominique, says the automaker will try to build the SUV '"as long as we possibly can," there isn't a redesign in sight.

Despite the Xterra's likely demise, Ward's says that the Xterra's mid-size kin, the Frontier pickup and Pathfinder, don't appear to be going anywhere, though Dominique seemingly hints that the latter could continue on in a new form, saying "Pathfinder will live on... how it will live on, wait to see. There's no reason to get rid of a three-row crossover or SUV." Could Nissan be pondering a shift to a car-based Pathfinder, like the 2011 Ford Explorer and the forthcoming Dodge Durango? We should know within the year.

Unlikely Baby Crossover Confounds and Delights

2011 Nissan Juke - Click above for high-res image gallery

Remember the Nissan NX of the mid-'90s? The tiny, econobox-based sportster was as cute as a bug and spent its brief lifespan mixing it up with other long-gone, sporty front-wheel drive affordables like the Mazda MX-3, Honda Civic CRX, Toyota Paseo and even the Hyundai Scoupe. While there were a lot of inexpensive, racy looking coupes back then, most automakers just don't see any money in that segment anymore. Instead, when they look to spin something off of their entry-level B-class chassis, most veer toward the white-hot crossover segment.

Consider the latest example, Nissan's 2011 Juke. Come to think of it, this in-your-face city slicker has some startling similarities to the NX. For one, at 162.8 inches long, it's deceptively small - just 0.4 inches longer than the '90s coupe. Further, both the Juke and the NX1600 rely on 1.6-liter four-cylinder power. And like the Sentra-based NX, the more emotional Juke is based on the same humble underpinnings that give structure to Nissan's workaday offerings, in this case, the Versa and Cube. And while the Juke may not be cute as a bug, there's something downright insectian about its Predator-like mug.

Despite not being a traditional sporty car, Nissan has been talking up its controversially styled mini-ute with many of the same descriptors, so we hopped a plane to Vancouver to see if the Juke could bob and weave its way into our hearts. Follow the jump to find out how it fared.

2011 Nissan Quest in new ad campaign - Click above to watch video after the jump

We do love our car commercials. Oftentimes, marketing departments and ad agencies simply have a way of distilling everything we love about cars, trucks, SUVs and yes, even CUVs into easily-digestible snippets of video. Nissan has just rolled out a new collection of four ads under the Innovation for All banner, each focusing on the company's commitment to new ideas, designs and products.

If you look closely, you may even spy the next-generation Nissan Quest lurking among the quick cuts in the first ad. Judging from what we've seen, it looks like the company's minivan will be awfully similar to the Japanese-market Elgrand that Nissan debuted not so long ago.

In addition to the tech-centric commercial, Nissan is touting the fact that its vehicles have had brake override systems since 2004, ribbing rival Toyota and underscoring the company's commitment to safety at the same time. As you may recall, legislators have called for brake-override protection to be mandatory on all new cars in the wake of the Toyota unintended acceleration fiasco. Hit the jump to take a look at the spots for yourself.

2011 Nissan Titan - Click above for high-res image gallery

It looks like the 2011 Nissan Murano was the harbinger of names to come for the rest of the Nissan fleet. The company just released pricing details on the 2011 Titan and Armada, and it looks like the two heavy-breathing bruisers will carry new badges when they hit dealer lots. Starting next year, the Armada will shed its SE and Titanium designations in favor of SV and SL trims, respectively. Those looking to land themselves in the big Japanese SUV can expect to pay $37,910 for a two-wheel drive in SV garb. Things top out with the $52,890 Armada 4x4 Platinum.

On the truck side of things, XE, SE and LE trims have been scrapped in favor of S, SV and SL designations. Oh what a difference a consonant makes. Pricing for the full-size pickup starts at $26,820 for the short-wheelbase version in two-wheel drive, S trim and goes up from there. The priciest of the lot is the $39,620 Titan SL Crew Cab four-wheel drive. Hit the jump to check out the full press release, complete with pricing information.

2012 Nissan GT-R - Click above for image gallery

The thing about a halo car is that it needs that pretty little halo buffed and shined every single year to be sure the machine is kept at the forefront of consumers' minds. Nissan has been doing a pretty good job with its GT-R over the last few years in this regard, bumping power here and adding new techno-goodies there - all in an effort to give its giant slayer the tools to continue properly slaying.

That trend looks to continue for the 2012 model year, as the hive mind from GTRBlog.com has managed to score enough information on the upcoming machine to put together a nice little preview. Starting with the exterior, the next GT-R will get a revised front fascia complete with new (and sure to be controversial) LED driving lights frenched into new canards at either corner of the front bumper, lowering the car's coefficient of drag from 0.272 to 0.268.

There's also a new rear diffuser that adds 10 percent more downforce at the business end and a set of forged wheels from Rays cut 6.6 pounds of unsprung weight at each corner for a total loss of over 26 pounds. Impressive. There are reportedly two new colors for both the wheels - Hyper Blue Black and Hyper Titanium - and for the car - Aurora Flare Blue Pearl and Nebula Opal Black.

Expect price increases for both the base model, which will now be known as the Pure Edition, and the Premium Edition. Naturally, we're also told to expect some additional horsepower. We'll keep our eyes and ears peeled for more.

2011 Nissan Murano - Click above for high-res image gallery

Nissan has officially confirmed that the new fascia we saw on the European version of the 2011 Murano will find its way to the land of the free. The look carries a reworked bumper, along with similarly sculpted headlights and a new grille. If you were hoping to see the diesel model crop up on dealer lots in your neck of the woods, we've got bad news - it ain't happening. The oil-burning Murano is still only available to our cousins across the pond, leaving us with the capable 3.5-liter VQ V6 with 250 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque as our only powerplant option.

Even so, Nissan has chucked an additional trim line into the mix. Buyers can now choose between a total of eight variants on the Murano theme, including the new SV FWD and SV AWD trims. The Japanese automaker has thrown in 20-inch wheels, a dual-panel moonroof and a bevy of exterior color choices as optional goodies, too. Look for the 2011 Nissan Murano to land on dealer lots by October. Follow the jump for the full press blast.

  • Report: Forthcoming Nissan Murano convertible to be a two-door soft-top -

Filed under: LA Auto Show, Convertible, Crossover, Nissan

Nissan Murano Convertible rendering crop 250Nissan had the guts to bring us the bizarrely styled Juke, which is getting some solid press for its performance, and now it's apparently set to follow that up with a convertible version of the Nissan Murano. Apparently getting ready for its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Nissan gave dealers a preview of the two-door, cloth-topped crossover and the reaction of one was, "kind of unusual." You don't say. The Murano droptop has been widely rumored for ages now, but it was never known whether the crossover would maintain the four-door arrangement of the hardtop. It appears that in the roofectomy process, Nissan will remove two doors, which leaves us thinking that the finished product might look something like a mutant Chrysler PT Cruiser convertible. Hopefully the basket-handle brace in the rendering at right won't be a structural necessity.

Speaking of the oft-rumored vehicle that few thought would come true, Nissan's VP of sales and marketing stated "there's a degree of bravery for us to bring out a car like that right now." The company isn't predicting sales volume numbers for this genre-busting crossover, but the hardtop Murano continues to be a solid seller for the Japanese brand. We wouldn't be at all surprised to find quite a few of them in beach cities wearing rental company plates. If you like what you see when it is revealed, the sale date is penciled in for sometime in 2011.

2011 Nissan Juke - Click above for high-res image gallery

Nissan has just released pricing for the 2011 Juke - the company's new baby CUV. Buyers looking to scramble into the driver's seat can look forward to a base MSRP of $18,960 (*plus destination) for the Juke S when equipped with a CVT and front-wheel drive. Prices for the range-topping Juke SL with a CVT and all-wheel drive hit a ceiling of $24,550 before any options are added.

All models will come from the factory with a new direct-injection turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with 188 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. Nissan says that when bolted to the company's efficient CVT, the Juke should return 27 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. Meanwhile, six-speed manual-equipped models start at $20,260.

Buyers wanting to take advantage of the Juke's torque-vectoring all-wheel drive can hop into the Juke S AWD. That model, which is available only with a CVT, starts at $20,460, landing it squarely in Subaru Forester and Mini Countryman territory. With a low price, plenty of onboard tech and quirky, youth-oriented styling, we're expecting to see plenty of these on the road in short order when it goes on sale this October. • KBB: Ford most considered car brand, Hyundai makes big jump -

Filed under: Car Buying, Marketing/Advertising, Hyundai, Nissan

    Hyundai dealership

Hyundai was one of just a few companies to come through the automotive meltdown of 2009 relatively unscathed. The Korean automaker managed to keep sales up while others faltered thanks to a quality, inexpensive product lineup backed with a stout warranty. Now it looks like those very factors are beginning impact the number of car shoppers who would consider hopping into a Hyundai. According to the Kelly Blue Book Market Intelligence Brand Watch study, the company has risen to the fifth most non-luxury brand considered by car shoppers. The move effectively kicked Nissan out of the top five for the first time in years.

Hyundai's rise was precipitated by the fact that the company is scoring well in the non-luxury coupe/sedan/hatchback segment. In that area, the carmaker is bested only by Ford, Honda and Toyota.

Interestingly enough, Ford is the most considered car brand at the moment, thanks in part to Toyota's newly tarnished image. The Japanese automaker fell eight percentage points in the study compared to this time last year thanks largely to its recall problems. Hit the jump for a look at the KBB press release.

  • Elon Musk rips into Nissan Leaf's "primitive" batteries -

    Elon Musk

If there's ever going to be a green-car cage match, we can guarantee that one of the fighters will be Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk, who apparently can't pass up the chance to take on any competitor. His latest target? The lithium-ion battery pack in the Nissan Leaf, about which Musk had some critical things to say in a conference call with investors this week.

Even though Nissan is supremely confident in the ability of its battery pack, Musk said it was a "much more primitive level of technology" than even Tesla's first prototype. Musk also said that the Leaf pack will have temperatures "all over the place" that will cause it to suffer "huge degradation" in cold environments and basically "shut off" in hot environments, according to Earth2Tech.

Tesla's battery has a more sophisticated/complicated cooling system than the air-cooled system found in the Leaf pack, but Nissan strongly supports its battery pack with an 8-year, 100,000-mile warranty and has been working on lithium-ion battery technology for a long time. We imagine they know what they're doing, and the proof will be in driveways soon enough.

2011 Nissan Elgrand - Click above for high-res image gallery

Nissan is set to release the next-generation Quest minivan in the States later this year, but we may have gotten an early peek at the people mover thanks to Japanese unveil. Nissan pulled the sheets off of its JDM-only Elgrand - the corporate cousin to the Quest - and the van looks suspiciously similar to the teaser shots of the U.S. version we've seen so far. If the information on the Elgrand is any indication, buyers can look forward to getting their minivan with either a 3.5-liter V6 or a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, with all-wheel drive available on select models and both seven and eight passenger configurations.

That's not to say the two vehicles will be identical. For one thing, it appears that the American version of the van will wear slightly tweaked front and rear fascias compared to what we can see on the Elgrand. Likewise, we expect significant changes to the interior for the American market when the 2011 Quest debuts at the LA Auto Show in November.

    NAIAS 2007: Nissan Bevel Concept

    Monday, January 29th, 2007

Premiere at 2007 North American International Auto Show

    Nissan Bevel Concept

The Nissan Bevel is a dynamic, multi-purpose vehicle – one designed to enhance every activity, every opportunity. But unlike currently available sport utility vehicles or minivans, which emphasize passenger needs and comfort, the advanced Bevel Concept’s focus is placed strictly on the primary user – male empty-nesters actively engaged in hobbies, recreation and community service.

Conceived at Nissan Design America, Inc. (NDA) in La Jolla, California, in collaboration with Nissan advanced product planning groups in the United States, the Bevel Concept is an exploration of the future of the sport utility vehicle, going far beyond the current stereotypes.

"We see an opportunity to expand the range and values of the utility vehicle world," said Bruce Campbell, vice president design, NDA. "In the future, we envision "genres" where each product will be more dedicated and more focused, with the vehicles being much closer to the multi-dimensional aspects of the target buyers."

Bevel offers unique, function-inspired asymmetrical styling, a high-utility three-zone interior and technology ranging from glass roof-mounted solar panels to drive-by-wire steering, throttle and braking.

"Bevel is designed as a useful and rewarding vehicle for the ‘Everyday Hero’ – the guy who’s always ready to help out a neighbor, a friend or around his community," said Campbell.

"These are men between 45 and 60 years of age with multiple personal interests. They don’t need the heavy-duty utility of a pickup or room for a lot of passengers. In fact, they probably drive their vehicles alone more than 90 percent of the time. What they need is an extension of their toolboxes, workshops and garages – so they can easily take their work or hobbies on the road in comfort, style and with unlimited utility. The Bevel Concept is just that vehicle," he continued.

    An Innovative, Asymmetrical Exterior

Bevel’s compact exterior dimensions belie the immense utility inside. It rides on a 115.4-inch wheelbase, longer than the current Nissan Murano (111.2 inches) but shorter than the Nissan Quest (124.0 inches).

Its short front and rear overhangs give it a manageable overall length of 173.2 inches, while width measures a full 75.0 inches. Overall height of 63.8 inches is nearly three inches shorter than Murano (66.5 inches), yet with Bevel’s low load floor the total interior cargo height is the same as Murano.

Bevel’s exterior is highlighted by a low front end and large windshield, large flared wheelwells with 20-inch wheels and 245/55R20 Michelin tires. The wheels feature rubber inserts on the outer spoke edges, visually extending the look of the tires while helping protect the wheels against curb damage.

The advantages of Bevel’s asymmetrical styling are evident in the door layout. The driver’s side door is extremely long and pivots on a special four-bar/two-position hinge designed for ease of entry and exit. A large driver’s side window aids visibility. The driver’s side rear body panel is solid, except for a narrow, horizontal upper window.

On the passenger side of Bevel’s body are two doors, with the rear door hinged at the rear to provide an exceptionally wide door opening of nearly five-and-a-half feet (67.3 inches) from A-pillar to C-pillar – ideal for loading cargo, supplies or hobby equipment, such as a long-wingspan remote controlled airplane.

Bevel’s tall one-piece rear hatch features a special horizontal hinge arrangement, with a height when raised of 6’2" from the ground. With the hatch open, a special tailgate-like work platform (about half of the width of the hatchback) folds down and snaps into place, creating a sturdy workbench-like area. This platform is strong enough to sit or stand on and has a quick-release design for easy removal and storage when not needed.

Located in the lower side edges of the rear cargo area, accessible with the hatch in the open position, is a pair of power outlets – a traditional 12V outlet and an 110V power tool recharging outlet, which is powered by Bevel’s integrated solar cells mounted beneath the large glass roof panels.

"In creating Bevel, we studied how Everyday Heroes really use their vehicles – the loads, the size of their cargo, how they need protection from the rain when working outside," said Campbell. "Having a tailgate that a 6-foot-plus tall person can stand beneath while working under it adds tremendously to the vehicle’s year-round utility."

Along with the oversize, asymmetrical glass roof, Bevel also features a unique roof cargo system. Six hexagon-shaped "pucks" with pop-up hooks are designed to carry loads up to 250 pounds – versus traditional roof rack systems’ recommended load capacities of 60 pounds.

Other Bevel exterior features include hidden LCD headlights and projector fog lamps, LCD taillights integrated into the tailgate surround and hidden under the paint, breakaway fiber-optic side cameras in place of traditional sideview mirrors, a recessed rear license plate holder, hidden exhaust outlets and touch-sensitive door release keypads mounted in the door window glass.

"Our goal in designing the Bevel exterior was to maximize functionality and minimize the use of visual distractions such as door handles, big exhaust pipes or splashy lighting," said Campbell. "At the same time, we wanted the little details to reflect Bevel’s utility theme, which is why there is a recurring use of hexagons in the vehicle’s design – reminiscent of a socket or a tool – in the wheels, grille and even the disc brake venting."

    Three Specific Interior Zones

Bevel’s interior combines comfort, utility and technology – organized into three use-specific "zones." The first zone is the comfort zone (driver’s area), with a comfortable, rich leather-appointed fixed seat. A section of the driver’s side floor is connected to and moves out with the driver’s door.

Also aiding driver ingress and egress is Bevel’s "ribbon" instrument panel, which moves four inches forward and out of the way when the driver’s door is opened – and back into position in front of the driver when the door is closed.

"Use of the moving or floating instrument panel ribbon was made possible by Bevel’s drive-by-wire throttle, braking and steering," said Campbell. "This also allowed us to move the firewall forward by nearly a foot, creating additional room in front for both the driver and an occasional front seat passenger."

An integrated center console houses a control knob for the Nissan Xtronic CVT™ (Continuously Variable Transmission).

The second zone is the "command central" information/technology zone, designed to connect the driver with the Bevel and the outside world. The information-centric, fully digital instrument panel features a series of screens. Side LCD monitors, located on the outer edges of the instrument panel, display images from the sideview mirror cameras. The main center display offers adjustable image sizes and typefaces and can be switched between five information menus – Vehicle Information, HVAC, Navigation, Entertainment and Home – through use of the ribbon-mounted controller.

The "Entertainment" control center allows the driver to access phone settings, weather and traffic reports, Internet and personal e-mail accounts, and music – including satellite radio, MP3 files, CDs and the integrated speakers. From the "Home" control center, the driver can access a home network and monitor locks and security system, heat and air conditioning, appliance, room lighting and garage door status.

"The concept behind Bevel’s information center is again adding a dimension of real world utility," said Campbell. "For example, if you are on your way home from a day of fly fishing, wouldn’t it be great to be able to turn on or adjust the lights and heat in your house just before you get there?"

Bevel also includes a wireless tablet display computer, allowing connection with the information center when away from the instrument panel.

The third Bevel zone is the utility/pet zone. Bevel’s flexible seating includes lightweight, aluminum-frame fold-flat front passenger and rear bench seat. Because they are likely to be kept in the folded position most of the time, the seat surfaces themselves are very simple yet durable, and the backsides of the seats are covered with the same material as the rear cargo area floor, creating one large, seamless front-to-rear utility surface. The flooring itself is constructed from laminated recycled walnut, creating an extremely hard, workbench-like surface.

"Our idea is to surround the driver with an appropriate level of comfort and luxury, but the rest of the Bevel is designed to get dirty, marred or marked. That’s opposite of what is offered with most current utility vehicles," said Campbell. "You won’t find a lot of cupholders or reading lamps in the rear of Bevel because you’re much more likely to be carrying power saws than passengers."

Bevel does provide accommodations for one special class of passenger – pets. The front passenger area includes a 360-degree pet leash swivel connection point and a large, removable "doggie hutch" pet carrier is designed to fit securely in the rear cargo area.

The utility zone also includes a series of compartments and tie-down hooks, offering a high level of cargo-carrying flexibility.

"Bevel’s interior can be used in so many ways, even as an additional storage for equipment between activities or uses, which is why we’ve limited glass areas to keep prying eyes out. Bevel really can be used like a second garage or workshop," said Campbell.

Conceptually, Bevel would feature a small, efficient 2.5-liter V6 with HEV, combining driving pleasure with environmentally friendly design.

"We believe that the Bevel target buyer is interested in both performance and fuel economy, so Bevel’s powertrain would be selected with the goal of providing segment-leading MPG and the power of a larger V6," said Campbell.

    A Study In Specialization

The Nissan Bevel Concept makes its world debut at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit – along side another all-new Nissan SUV design, the 2008 Nissan Rogue. The Rogue, Nissan’s latest entry into the crossover SUV segment, shares Bevel’s unique blending of a driver-focused cockpit with innovative utility.

"In many ways, Bevel and Rogue are designed for the same active, involved people, just at different stages in their lives," said Campbell. "While the Rogue buyer is just starting out with increased family and career responsibilities, Bevel’s owner has more free time to devote to personal interests and activities. So often, as an industry, we ignore older buyers’ needs – instead of embracing the fresh thinking that specialization can bring. We believe car enthusiasts of all ages are going to love Bevel."
